ABOUT | Back To Eco

By My Eco has created Back To Eco, a line of handbags and accessories designed from recirculated post-consumer jeans and made by people at risk of social exclusion. We believe in a circular economy and a more ethical and sustainable fashion.

A DIFFERENT BRAND

It all came about when a biologist and an environmental specialist had the idea that sustainability should become something popular, close, easy and funny. Back To Eco started off from here, as a way of communicating with the world and of transforming something as familiar as a pair of jeans into a new product that would enhance the value of the textile industry and the value of reconverting and recycling. To create a garment that would motivate people to an appreciation of the material it is made of, the DENIM, something we all have in our homes.

Back To Eco also means returning to long-life recycling. To turn what our grand-mothers did in the past into a trendy brand of bags and jeans-made accessories. Products eco-designed and made in Barcelona out of used jeans and with a social and sustainable criteria.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY

When we speak of a circular economy, what first comes to our minds are the materials that circulate and undergo transformation, materials that are never destroyed or disposed of. This is one of the fundamental premises of the Back To Eco project, that is, to reduce the use of new resources while trying to minimize waste production as a result of our activity. Circular economy however is also a vision of the world that goes beyond the private profit and puts the focus on global profit so that everybody should benefit from each transaction.

We work day by day in the creation of a relations and cooperation network so that we can all move towards kinder economic systems with the world and the people. With you we’ll be one more.

ANALYSIS OF THE LIFE CYCLE OF OUR x3 / FLAP BACKPACK

Back To Eco has commissioned an Analysis of the Life Cycle of the X3 / Flap Backpack (ACV) to the environmental consultant Ana Villagordo in order to know the environmental value that implies the reuse of the Texan fabric and to know the environmental impact of the production of our pieces .

People working in our Back To Eco workshop have been selected through local programs of social and labor integration or by the Charity Organization CARITAS. These programs are meant for people who have a social exclusion risk certificate. Only people having a disability certificate work at the workshop of our collaborator, Estel Tapia.
Hasta hoy, se han comprado 4.600 kilogramos de tejanos rotos a la entidad social Solidança (miembro de Roba Amiga), de los cuales un 45% se ha reutilizado convirtiéndose en nuevos productos Back To Eco.
Back To Eco is cut and sewn in our Barcelona workshop. Our raw material, torn jeans, is collected 100% from local disposal containers of the ROBA AMIGA organization. The rest of materials used are also bought in Barcelona except for “piñatex”.
The Back To Eco pieces are unique garments. They are mostly made of used torn jeans and each of them have their own history and imprint.
Until now, up to 4.600 kilograms of torn jeans have been bought from SOLIDANÇA, a social organization and member of ROBA AMIGA, of which 45% have been reused as new Back To Eco products.
The materials for the production of the Back To Eco products are free of animal disposal. Although our raw material consists of recycled denim, we know that some of the brands of re-circulated jeans arriving to us are not accepted as vegan. What you might think is leather, is in fact “piñatex”(ananas Anam)
